2024: The year of effortlessness
E109: What one word taught me about creating space for effortless leadership
Effortlessness. That was my word of the year in 2024. What was yours?
For me, choosing a word of the year isn’t about replacing long-term visions or goals. Instead, it’s about curiosity, experimentation, and a sense of lightness.
No pressure to meet every resolution or goal. No endless to-do lists weighing on your shoulders. Just observing and noticing—where does your word show up?
So, what did I notice about effortlessness?
It comes and goes.
It’s waking up with energy, your body alive and alert, your mood buoyant. It’s the clarity that comes when your mind and body are in sync.
It’s effort—but the right kind of effort.
It’s the right kind of effort that transforms leadership. The kind that makes even the busiest days feel almost magical
Picture this: The sun streams through your office window as the team leaves the room. You see smiles on their faces and hear laughter in the hallway. The meeting you just led? It felt easy. The ideas flowed. Your shoulders relaxed.
You had space—space to truly listen, to notice not just what’s being said, but what’s left unspoken.
And even more importantly, you had space to tune into yourself. In the moment.
It’s this capacity—this presence—that makes even the hardest challenges feel rewarding.
That’s one of the ways effortlessness looked like for me in 2024.
Effortlessness isn’t just something I’ve experienced—it’s something I believe is possible for each of you.
There’s a version of effortless leadership that’s already within you, waiting to be uncovered.
In the weeks ahead, I’ll be sharing ways to help you tap into that potential—ways to lead, live, and thrive with effortlessness as your guide.
Here’s to the effortless you in 2025!

I really depend on you to keep reminding me of this possibility. My life script does not have effortlessness anywhere in its pages, so I have to keep adding this word into an addendum. Your newsletter always lands the message fresh in my mind and I get to do the "effortless!" work of making space for this idea in the flow of my efforts. Just wanted to say thank you for being a champion for this one, powerful idea!
