Wow, that's heartbreaking about that tree. I think the only barrier I'd add that you didn't name is that we don't play. An absence of making opportunities to have fun with each other is a barrier. I'm been trying to remember this just with my family these days. We introduced my son to jelly-bean poker last night. Play is people glue.
