So important! We need to treat ourselves well first and foremost. Otherwise we won't have the strength or energy to pass it onto others. Thanks for shedding light on this topic Eric!
I was hooked from the beginning, Eric! So fun. I really enjoyed your essay and the message that we need to prioritize ourselves as much as we do others.
It's fun, and yet something I don't see time and again - in myself, too. We don't prioritise what's important enough. Health. Relationships. Happiness. Joy.
I have a theory that the most impactful leaders - where leadership feels worth it for the one leading and the team being led - that they prioritise themselves - they aim to be their best selves, so they can bring out the best in others.
The anecdotal evidence so far from the entrepreneurs and professionals I work with supports my theory so far!
I can see that! When you said, "We succeed at work at the expense of success in our health and wellbeing" that resonated. For me, I have family members in healthcare and see how they can give a lot to their organization and patients but then they end up burnt out and want to exit the field. I agree, taking care of yourself first can put you in a stronger position to help others.

I like this concept of passing our energy on to others. It reminds me of how coaching conversations are forma of energetic exchange
