Amazing insight, Eric!

I've become much more aware of how what I eat or don't eat affects my energy and thus important areas of my own life, even with something like writing!!

Great article :)

Cheers, Sandra!

Awareness is so key, and having that compassionately curious mindset you've got in abundance really helps when it comes to working out what influences your individual energy levels.

I didn't have any awareness when I fell asleep in front of my boss because there were so many root causes affecting my energy levels that it was like wading through a foggy swamp! Hindsight - and knowledge - are great!

It was only when I started experimenting with taking out the three biggest sources of inflammation from what I was eating that I started noticing changes. Then I decided to go the try a reset (that's the guide I shared at the end of the article). But getting to that point took me about a year of experimenting.

Although it's not for everyone, that reset approach can be helpful because of the period AFTER the reset, especially when it comes to awareness. After taking out the foods that a generally known to cause issues (headaches, lethargy, pain, skin issues etc), we reintroduce foods in an order of least likely to be problematic to most likely. Because the reset period removed major sources of inflammation, our bodies get a breather, so it's easier to become aware of what affects your energy (or not).

One of the biggest things that happens is that our taste buds change. Previously "not sweet enough" things taste "too sweet" after.

Love the connection you've made here Eric. Nailed it. Great writing, as well.

Cheers Michael. Sometimes I think the connection is really obvious but in talking about it with our fellow writing friends, I've realised that's not always the case!

I ALWAYS feel great after a ribeye and some roasted vegetables (usually Brussel sprouts or broccoli). This is how I justify to my wife that we need to grill steaks a couple of times a week.

😋 I love that combination, too!

That combination of protein + non-starchy veg is an QUICK, easy way to have a delicious, brain-healthy meal. It's no wonder you feel great afterwards! No yo-yo-ing blood sugar levels!

Hi Eric, Thanks for this great article. I found it here at a most interesting time! I’m a healthy eater and have a nutrient dense diet and don’t eat sugar, alcohol. I avoid the middle aisles of the grocery store. I detox in the spring and fall. I’m into seeing the way my body responds.

Prior to the writing course, I was on a 4 week experiment eliminating wheat, coffee, dairy- the last of the big inflammatory foods in my diet. It made an incredible difference. I’ve been making turmeric jamu for a while, but eliminating the inflammatory foods felt much more potent than taking the anti inflammatory drink. (I was making them not so much for the properties but missed Bali and the taste!) Clarity in my mind, resilience and better energy management were palpable. My daughter noticed how present (she says chill) I was.

Jump to week 4 of the course and an unusually heavy work schedule, and ordered food a few days in a row. Boom. I felt like a different person. My daughter kept asking that week why I was so stressed. My morning walks were HARD! The trails hadn’t changed- just me and my eating.

That, and sleep.

What babies do- their job is to eat well, sleep well, and poop well!! We might be looking to babies for what constitutes a good foundation of presence-making!!😂

Thanks again, Eric. I’m going to go deeper into the 30day reset doc for my entry back into healthful eating...and being! 🙏🙏
